One of the youngest of the world’s major cities, Johannesburg was founded in 1886, following the discovery of gold. The city was initially part of the Transvaal, an independent Afrikaner, or Boer, republic that later became one of the four provinces of South Africa. Today the city is a part of Gauteng (a Sotho word meaning “Place of Gold”), one of the nine provinces of South Africa.

(Tshwane), nicknamed The Jacaranda City for all the purple blossomed Jacaranda trees, is situated in a sheltered valley surrounded by the Magaliesberg Mountains, north of Johannesburg and can be reached by the Gautrain or taxi from the airport. Being one of the Nations Capitals, there are many top class venues for conferencing or holidays. You will also find many interesting historic attractions such as Transvaal Museum (The home of Mrs Ples), Cultural Museum, Smuts Museum, Pioneer Museum, Union Buildings and many more.

Sandton, known as the “richest square mile in Africa” is home to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange as well as many other prosperous businesses. Major financial institutions have their head offices set up in Sandton and surrounding areas. For conference delegates coming from outside of Sandton, the Gautrain has made life much easier with trains dropping you right in the centre within easy walking distance of most major hotels and offices.

On the outskirts of Johannesburg and Pretoria are a wide host of conference venues that are perfect for any event.
